So I realised that there is a very important fandom tradition I have that I hadn’t done with Top Gear USA yet.
Namely give them all Pokémon.
Rutledge OBVIOUSLY gets an adorable cuddly and mild-mannered Pokémon. I considered a Teddiursa, but Teddiursa are secretly quite cunning and will trick you to get food, so a fluffy Mareep seems more suitable. He obviously has a jumper made from his Mareep’s wool, and while Adam and Tanner mock the shit out of that jumper, Rutledge loves it. And then his Mareep sneakily shocks the other two.
Speaking of the other two, I am not sure what Pokémon they would have. Adam could easily have an Onyx, something big and destructive. And for Tanner I’m kinda stuck on a Pikachu, because he clearly looked like an unimpressed Pikachu when they stuck electrodes to his face.

Personally, I can see Adam with a Tauros. They’re a lot like bison, and for some reason the image of a herd of bison on a plain makes me think of classic cars. (There’s a painting I have of a roadhouse in a field, with classic cars parked in the grass all around it. I think that’s where this similarity of mine stems from. Or possibly because it was popular in certain crowds to adorn your grill with bull horns. Whichever.) And then there’s that whole “bull in a china shop” adage, which pretty much sums up Adam’s driving technique pretty well.
The “what’s a Pokemon you can drift?” thing got me thinking about Graveller, who travels down steep mountainsides by rolling, and that had me picturing Tanner skating his Graveller down a steep road on a dare, gravel flying all over the place as they drift at the finish…
Mareep fits Rutledge pretty goddamn well (I especially love the idea of him wearing a super-fluffy jumped knit from Mareep wool). I could also see him having a Lickitung, a Dewgong, a Poliwrath, a Psyduck and/or a Miltank on his team.
…Shit, now I really want to start up a new Pokemon game and play as one of the boys. Damn, there goes my productivity today.
